Overview
Tangjiahe Nature Reserve is one of the best places for wildlife in the temperate zone with the most abundant animal and plant resources thanks to the Huge elevation gap and diversified landscape. Serving as the natural home for the giant pandas and their companions, Tangjiahe is famous around the world as the best place to see wildlife in China.

This research camp will bring you to the natural gene bank to look for birds, mammals, enjoy plant identification, and experience the charm of the diversity of the ecosystem. Our scientific research camp features installing infra-camera, identify animal traces, and making nature observation notes. We will also hike in the forest, visit the relics from the Three Kingdom Period and learn about the history of Tangjiahe.
Trip Targets
1. Nature observation and history study:Besides observing some special plants in Tangjiahe, we will look for more than 10 species of mammals under the national protection including Sichuan Takin, Reeve's Muntjac Deer, Chinese Goral, Tufted Deer, Porcupine, Masked Palm Civet, Leopard Cat, Yellow-throated Martin, and Tibetan Macaque, and some star birds including Tawny Fish Owl, Golden Pheasant, Temminck's Tragopan, and Slaty Bunting. Your nature teachers will share with us knowledge about animal behavior and ecology during our observation. During our trip, we will also hike in the quiet forest and learn about military and history information about the Three Kingdoms;
2. Acquire new skills, and seek physical and mental pleasure:This trip will help us to increase our capability of five senses, learn the basic skills needed for field research including the installment and use of infra-camera, the identification of animal traces, taking and sorting out nature notes. Through research and sharing, we will help participants cultivate teamwork and improve their capabilities in lecturing and expressing their ideas. The hike in the forest will be a good exercise for our body and relax with lots of fun;
3. Build up more love for nature:We will feel the beauty of nature through colorful nature experience activities and games carefully prepared for this trip. Our link with nature will be built and our curiosity and exploration ability will be further cultivated;
4. Improve behavior:From our actual visit, we will feel the fragility of the ecosystem, learn about the challenges in face of the reserves from our talks with local people and know the achievement in protecting wildlife and plants. These will help us to look back into our behaviors and improve them to make them more environment-friendly.

Itinerary

Day 1:Arrive in Tangjiahe and get to know each other.
In the morning, we will take a tour bus to a designated place to drive to Tangjiahe Nature Reserve. Lunch in Qingxi Ancient Village.
In the afternoon, we will drive into the reserve, in route, we will look for mammals such as Sichuan Takin and learn about safety measures.
In the evening, we will have a camp-opening ceremony with ice-breaking activities and trip briefing including research targets and grouping.
Day 2:Learning skills for scientific research in the field and looking for birds and mammals.
In the morning, we will search for birds and mammals in the reserve with a focus on learning about the Sichuan Takin, the first-class protected animal in China. We will also take a walk in so-called Snake Island to study plants, birds, fishes in the nearby river, and homes made for insects by the reserve.
In the afternoon, we will take a walk in the Linghou Valley to look for birds and plants. Near our hotel, we have a chance to encounter Tibetan Macaque. Our expert will tell us the differences between Tibetan Macaque and Rhesus Macaque in their habitats and looks. The reserve staff will also teach us how to install infra-camera in the wild. We will also look for animal traces and identify them under the guidance of reserve staff.
In the evening, we will have a night walk near our hotel to look for nocturnal animals such as Leopard Cat and Masked Civet.
Day 3:Study on the ecological system of Giant Panda Habitat.
In the morning, we will go to the habitat of the Giant Pandas to study the animal and plant resources there.
In the afternoon, we will visit one important conservation station called Motianling Conservation Station to learn about the lives of the reserve staff and study the animal and plant resources in the neighboring area. We will also look for golden pheasant in the afternoon.
At night, we will play nature games and have a night walk to look for Leopard Cat.
Day 4:Hike in the relics from the Three Kingdom period and enjoy plant identification.
In the morning, we will visit Hongjun Bridge, a thousand-year-old King Gingo Tree, learn the surviving skills of plants, and hike in Motianling. Our walk-in Yingping Ancient Trail and Dengai Relics will help us to understand the Three Kingdom culture, modern Chinese history, and the history of the Red Army. In the afternoon, we will visit Tangjiahe Nature Museum, collect the infra-camera we have installed and study the plants and wildlife from the information we have obtained.
In the evening, we will have a report meeting and a camp closing ceremony.
Day 5:Explore Qingxi Ancient Village and Return to Chengdu.
In the morning, we will visit the families living outside the reserve and see their mushroom farms and bio-gas project to understand the efforts made by the reserve and local communities. Our visit to Qingxi Ancient Village will give us a chance to understand the traditional architecture of Han and Hui Muslims and witness the harmonious coexistence of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Muslim, and Roman Catholics.
In the afternoon, we will return to Chengdu by our bus.

Logistics
Hotel Stay:Tangjiahe Grand Hotel ( one twin-bed room for one family, for children without a parent, arrange room-sharing according to the actual situation. In principle, we do not use one room for one single child. If parent hopes to use a single room, the single supplement is 133USD/pax ) .
Transportation:A private tour bus will be used for the journey from Chengdu to Tangjiahe and back to Chengdu. During the trip inside the reserve, we will use a reserve shuttle bus based on actual needs each day. We will require drivers with rich experience and driving at moderate speed to ensure comfortableness and safety.
About Food:We will eat in a hotel restaurant within the reserve with a balanced selection of vegetable and meat dishes. Purified water and seasonal fruits will be provided during the whole trip.
Safety Measures:
1. All around process control and safety check before the start of the trip.
2. Staff with AHA first aid certificate and first aid kit during the whole trip.
3. Detailed rules and reminders for the trip and ensure all the participating parents and children know them.
4. Measures for epidemic prevention: we will prepare epidemic prevention materials such as surgery masks, pure alcohols, hand sanitizer, and thermometer. We will have a temperature check before the start of our trip activities.

Our leaders have many years of guiding trips to Tangjiahe Nature Reserve and know the local places, especially know the animals there very well. Cory's love for plants and nature started from a very young age with rich knowledge and experiences on plant survey. During his study at Sichuan University, he started outdoor hiking. Out of his strong love for plants, he traveled to different parts of Sichuan and neighboring areas and photographed over one thousand plant species. He co-founder of some new plant species and new distribution of plants in Sichuan. Frequently, he is interviewed by the local newspaper, and TV stations. In one of the TV programs called To the West of Chengdu(Chengdu Plus), he showed some unique flowers in southwest China. Through his lens and sharing, he hopes to help more people to appreciate the beauty of plants.
